Spectacular unit in Santee Village’s Textile Building

Once an airy workspace, this corner unit in Santee Village’s historic Textile Building offers original industrial features with breathtaking views. Designed by architect  William Douglas Lee, construction of the 12-story Gothic and Renaissance Revival loft was supervised by Florence Casler , a “female powerhouse who developed 1920s Downtown LA,” including “at least seven specialized industrial buildings in what is now known as LA’s Fashion District.” The unit is located on the fifth floor and opens up to a hallway leading to an open space grounded by concrete floors and lined with original industrial windows, framing sweeping views. A modular single-line kitchen is fitted with a stainless steel countertop and open wire and wood shelving, displaying a small collection of Hasami Porcelain. Amazing 5-bedroom modern storybook house in Silver Lake

From curbside to inside this renovated storybook residence in Silver Lake reads like a modern fairytale. As Arrol Gellner, historian, architect , and author of Storybook Style: America’s Whimsical Homes of the Twenties , highlights, storybook-style dwellings typically include features reminiscent of medieval times. But interior designer, Kathryn McCollough of Lever , decided to give the home a pared-down, modern aesthetic while keeping the charm. The pages of this fairytale begin with the two-story home opening to a living room anchored by a wood-burning fireplace and natural light pouring in through a palladian fanlight window. From the living room, you step up into a spacious dining room that floats into the kitchen. A black-veined countertop is the highlight of the kitchen that’s fitted with a La Cornue range and Miele appliances. Completing this level are two bedrooms and two bathrooms.
